
The family of renowned Nigerian evangelist, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has confirmed his passing at the age of 80. The founder and president of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, a global Christian ministry headquartered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, reportedly died on October 6, 2025, after a brief illness.
In an official statement released through his verified social media handle, the family described his transition as a “triumphant homegoing,” expressing gratitude to God for a life dedicated to faith, service, and the propagation of the gospel across nations. “We thank God for a life well spent in service to humanity and the kingdom. Further details about the funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course,” the statement read.
Rev. Ukpai, often regarded as one of Africa’s foremost evangelists, was known for his dynamic preaching, healing crusades, and commitment to interdenominational unity within the Christian faith. His ministry, which spanned over five decades, touched millions of lives across Nigeria and beyond, with revival meetings held in various continents.
Born in 1945 in Asaga, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Ukpai rose from humble beginnings to become a global voice in Christian evangelism. He founded the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association in 1970 and later established faith-based initiatives such as the Uma Ukpai Polytechnic, the Uma Ukpai Medical Centre, and several empowerment programs aimed at youth and widows.
Tributes have poured in from religious leaders, political figures, and Christian organizations, all describing him as a “father of faith,” a “visionary leader,” and a “true ambassador of Christ.”
Rev. Ukpai is survived by his wife, Dr. Pastor Philomena Uma Ukpai, children, grandchildren, and thousands of spiritual sons and daughters worldwide. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon.
