NYSC Warns Corps Members Against Drug Abuse, Illicit TradeThe Bayelsa State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Okpalifo Obiageli Charity, has cautioned Corps members against involvement in drug abuse and illicit drug trade, stressing that wearing the NYSC uniform does not grant immunity from arrest and prosecution.

Mrs. Okpalifo gave the warning during the 2025 Batch B, Stream 2 rally against drug abuse held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Kaiama, Bayelsa State. She was represented by the Camp Director, Sir Anumaka Raymond Kennedy, who urged Corps members to uphold discipline and avoid acts that could destroy their future.

He reminded them that as future leaders of the country, indulging in drug abuse could ruin their potential and limit their ability to offer quality leadership to the nation. Sir Anumaka expressed concern over the growing number of mentally unstable youths on the streets, attributing the situation largely to the misuse of drugs and other harmful substances. He emphasized that Corps members caught engaging in drug-related offenses would face the full wrath of the law, including arrest and prosecution by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Earlier, the Head of the NDLEA delegation to the camp, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics (ASN) Donald Enyiekere, commended the NYSC management for prioritizing the campaign against drug abuse among Corps members. He noted that the partnership between the NYSC and NDLEA would go a long way in curbing the menace of drug use among Nigerian youths.
