FRSC Reaffirms Discipline, Professionalism in Ebonyi Command By Amara Agha, Abakaliki

The leadership of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified efforts to reinforce discipline and professionalism in its Ebonyi State Command, declaring zero tolerance for misconduct capable of eroding public trust.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, represented by Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Godwin Omiko, led a high-powered delegation from the national headquarters to the state as part of a nationwide operational review and corrective intervention.

Addressing officers and men of the command, Omiko made it clear that the visit was neither ceremonial nor routine but a strategic move to confront emerging concerns within the corps. He said reports of declining discipline, abuse of authority, extortion, and other unprofessional conduct in some commands necessitated immediate leadership engagement.

According to him, any act of misconduct not only violates the corps’ regulations but also damages its credibility and weakens public confidence, which remains the foundation of its authority.

“The FRSC was established to save lives and serve the public with integrity, not merely to enforce traffic laws,” he said. “Once public trust is compromised, our effectiveness as a safety agency is diminished.”

He described the ongoing exercise as corrective and restorative rather than punitive, stressing that senior officers deployed to commands are tasked with mentoring personnel, strengthening accountability systems, and restoring firm command and control structures.

Omiko warned that harassment, bribery, intimidation, reckless enforcement, and extortion are illegal and unacceptable, emphasizing that discipline is not punishment but protection — safeguarding careers, institutional integrity, and the lives of Nigerians who depend on the corps daily.

On his part, the Ebonyi State Sector Commander, Daniel Asanya, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism and ethical conduct. He maintained that the state command has sustained relatively high operational standards and recorded minimal public complaints despite prevailing challenges.

Asanya further expressed confidence that the headquarters’ intervention would further strengthen discipline, enhance staff capacity, and improve service delivery across the state.

The Sector Commander reiterated that the FRSC has no room for bribery or violence against road users, insisting that any officer found engaging in misconduct does not reflect the ideals or values of the corps.

He added that his administration is focused on improving infrastructure, building personnel capacity, and strengthening relationships with the public to ensure the FRSC is perceived as a partner in safety rather than an adversary.

The FRSC Moves to Restore Discipline, Professional Standards in Ebonyi Command engagement featured technical sessions and open dialogue between headquarters officials and field officers, aimed at rebuilding morale, reinforcing ethical standards, and repositioning the Ebonyi Command as a model of discipline and service excellence.
