The suspended Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Lebachi Mbam, has tendered an apology to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru over delays in the execution of projects across the state, pleading for a second chance to serve.
Mbam was on Saturday indefinitely suspended by the governor alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure for Concession Development, Engr. Obasi Abara, over alleged dereliction of duty. Both commissioners were directed to hand over all government property in their possession, including official vehicles, to the Secretary to the State Government with immediate effect.
In an apology letter addressed to the governor, Mbam accepted responsibility for what he described as unmet expectations under his leadership at the Ministry of Works.
He acknowledged that leadership comes with both commendation and correction, noting that disciplinary measures are sometimes necessary to reposition government institutions for better performance.
“I reaffirm my loyalty and accountability to my principal, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru,” he stated, adding that the performance of the Ministry of Works remains a top priority for the governor.
The embattled commissioner admitted to lapses in the ministry and assured the governor that recent developments would serve as a wake-up call to improve efficiency and service delivery.
“On behalf of the Ebonyi State Ministry of Works, I take responsibility for the observed lapses,” he said. “Your Excellency, I apologize for every perceived disappointment. We will do better, and a second chance will not be taken for granted.”
Mbam further promised that the ministry would reassess its operations, strengthen areas of weakness and consolidate on its gains if given the opportunity to return to office.
The state government is yet to officially respond to the plea as of the time of filing this report.
