Diri Hails Peaceful APC Ward Congresses in Bayelsa

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has commended the peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward coDiri Hails Peaceful APC Ward Congresses in Bayelsangresses held across the state on Wednesday.

Governor Diri gave the commendation after participating in the exercise at Sampou, headquarters of Sampou/Kalama Ward 6 in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area. He applauded party delegates for unanimously electing new ward executives through consensus and affirmation.

According to him, the largely rancour-free process demonstrated unity among party faithful and reflected the maturity of the political class in the state. He stressed that politics should serve as a tool for development rather than division.

“We have all witnessed the affirmation by voice vote. This shows that unanimously, the APC in my ward has elected a new leadership. Let us continue with this spirit of oneness because when we are united, our development will be faster,” the governor said.

He added that the peaceful conduct of the congress would make the party’s national leadership proud, expressing optimism that the same orderly process would be replicated during the forthcoming local government and state congresses.

Governor Diri also appreciated the party’s National Executive Council, the state caretaker committee led by Dr. Dennis Otiotio, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agencies for their roles in ensuring a hitch-free exercise.

The Sampou/Kalama Ward 6 congress was conducted by the State Congress Election Committee led by Chief Frank Omare. Mr. Shedrach Fetuga emerged as chairman alongside other ward executives.

In his acceptance speech, Fetuga thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work towards strengthening the party’s structure in the ward ahead of the 2027 general and governorship elections.

The exercise was witnessed by members of the State Congress Screening Committee and an observer from INEC.
