NDU Inducts Pioneer Building Graduates into Nigerian Institute of Building Amassoma, Bayelsa – The Department of Building, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Niger Delta University (NDU), on Friday inducted its pioneer graduates into the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), marking a major milestone for the programme.

The ceremony, held on the university campus, had the theme “Building the Future: Innovating, Integrating and Inspiring in the Construction 4.0 Era.”

In his address, the Acting Head of Department, Dr. Christopher Belonwu, described the event as a moment of fulfilment, reflection and deep joy. He said the department was established in the 2019/2020 academic session with a clear vision of producing competent, ethical and industry-ready professionals capable of contributing to national development and global best practices.

Belonwu recalled that the department began with limited facilities but strong determination, noting that the successful induction of its graduates validated years of hard work and resilience by students, lecturers and the university management.

He explained that induction into the graduate cadre of NIOB goes beyond ceremony, as it signifies formal recognition of the graduates’ readiness to join the professional community. He urged the inductees to uphold integrity, pursue continuous learning, embrace innovation and maintain high ethical standards.

Represented by the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Sylvester Ebibai, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Allen Agih, described the occasion as historic, being the first set of builders produced by the institution. He noted that the programme operates in line with global best practices and accreditation standards, commending the lecturers, professional bodies and students for their commitment. He encouraged the inductees to continue growing professionally.

The President of NIOB, Mr. Abimbola Kolade, represented by Mr. Ahmed Baba Ahmed, former Chairman of the NIOB Bayelsa Chapter, praised NDU for the quality training of the graduates. He urged them to excel, engage in research, innovate, upskill and actively participate in NIOB programmes for professional development.

Also speaking, former National Publicity Secretary of NIOB, Mr. Akinola Bammeka, highlighted the vast opportunities in the building industry. He advised the inductees to remain focused, committed and determined, stressing that consistent effort is key to achieving success in the profession.
