A mammoth crowd on Weekend thonged the compound of a federal lawmaker and founder of the Chinedu Ogah Foundation in Ebonyi State, as the foundation disbursed ₦200 million in cash and twelve trailers of rice to members of the community in a humanitarian outreach.
Addressing journalists at the event, Hon. Chinedu Ogah said the gathering reflected the people’s support, stressing that the outreach was purely to give back to society.
“You should ask them, not me. They are the ones that elected me. What we are doing today is not politics; it is the Chinedu Ogah Foundation giving back to humanity,” he said.
He disclosed that the foundation, which has been in existence for 26 years, has continued to focus on practical interventions rather than social media publicity. “We are not those who depend on Facebook. We believe in practical impact on the lives of the people,” he added, noting that the foundation has built houses and empowered many families over the years.
On his political future, the lawmaker said any decision to seek re-election would be determined solely by the will of the people. “It is not about me. It is about the yearning of the people. If they want me, I will go; if they don’t want me, I will not,”.
He attributed his motivation to the continuous support he receives from constituents. “So far as you live, so far as you care, so far as you continue to support me, you motivate me. That is what it’s all about,” he stated.
Ogah also commended President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying it is already making positive impact in the South-East. “Funds have been released to governors, and that is why you see what our governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, is doing. Ebonyi today is one of the safest places to invest in the South-East,” he added, praising security agencies for their efforts.
He highlighted improvements in education and infrastructure, noting that many Ebonyi youths are currently studying for postgraduate degrees abroad on scholarships, while road and water projects are ongoing across the state. “I am a beneficiary of the Renewed Hope as a national assembly member, and you can see the impact in our communities,”.
Speaking on the controversial tax clause recently flagged by the National Assembly, Ogah said a committee has been constituted to review the grey areas. “The committee will look at it and report back, then we will know what to do in the interest of the people,”.
He further lauded Governor Nwifuru for his support to journalists and public servants, including the provision of official vehicles and scholarships. “The governor has done well. Many of you are car owners today because of him. That is why we are giving him our total support,” he said.
Supporters at the event chanted solidarity songs, insisting there was “no vacancy” in the position currently occupied by the lawmaker, as beneficiaries expressed gratitude for what they described as timely relief during the festive season.
