Bayelsa Police Deploy Massively to Secure Yuletide Celebrations
The Bayelsa State Police Command has announced a massive deployment of personnel and operational assets across the state to ensure a safe, peaceful, and hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebration.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Yenagoa, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, said the Command has activated comprehensive security measures on land and waterways to protect lives and property throughout the festive period.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police has directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), tactical units, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams, Marine Police, intelligence units, and special drone surveillance teams to maintain heightened operational readiness. The move is aimed at preventing crime and ensuring rapid response to any security threats.
The Command noted that patrols have been intensified in strategic locations, including worship centres, markets, motor parks, recreational areas, and other public places expected to witness increased human and vehicular activities during the Yuletide.
DSP Mohammed also disclosed that the Police are working closely with other security agencies, traditional rulers, youth leaders, and key stakeholders to strengthen intelligence gathering and security coverage before, during, and after the celebrations.
He reiterated that the ban on the use of fireworks remains in force, warning that violators would be dealt with in accordance with the law, as fireworks pose safety and security risks.
While wishing residents a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year, the Bayelsa State Police Command urged members of the public to celebrate responsibly, remain vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 07034578208 and 09167322691.
The Command reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state throughout the festive season and beyond.
