The Bayelsa State Handball Association has conferred an Award of Excellence on the Director of Sports in the state, Mr. Andrew Aye, in recognition of his steadfast support and commitment to the growth and development of handball in Bayelsa State.
The presentation took place on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, during a special ceremony held to honour the recently retired Head Coach, Mr. Deidei Enebidou. The event celebrated Enebidou’s years of dedicated service, which have significantly shaped the development of handball in the state.
As part of the programme, youth and senior handball teams thrilled spectators with exhibition matches organised in tribute to the coach’s enduring legacy and contributions to the sport across generations.
In recognition of his outstanding service, Coach Enebidou was presented with a finely crafted portrait, symbolising the association’s deep appreciation for his dedication, leadership, and lasting impact on handball in Bayelsa State.
The association also recognised other outstanding individuals for their contributions to the sport. Those honoured include Mr. Kingsley Obiukwu, Mr. Appah Sinizibe, and Miss Blessing Faanvie Peter, who were commended for their unwavering commitment, passion, and support for the development of handball in the state.
A special moment of the ceremony was dedicated to another retired Head Coach, Mr. Opuene Yekorogha, who was also honoured with a portrait in appreciation of his immense and lasting contributions to the advancement of handball in Bayelsa State.
In his remarks, Mr. Aye expressed gratitude to the association for the honour, noting that the recognition would further motivate him to do more to support athletes within the state sports council.
Stakeholders at the event described the ceremony as a celebration of excellence, service, and legacy, highlighting the association’s commitment to recognising individuals who have played pivotal roles in advancing handball in Bayelsa State.
