ENWAF.Promotes Safe Online Behaviour Among Igbogene Students

The Eunice Nnachi Women Advocacy Foundation (ENWAF) has continued its digital safety and gender-based violence sensitisation campaign with a visit to Community Secondary School, Igbogene, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The outreach focused on educating students on digital violence, responsible online engagement and the importance of reporting abuse.

Held on Monday, the interactive session brought together students, teachers and facilitators to discuss the rising cases of cyberbullying and online harassment among young people.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ENWAF, Lady Eunice Nnachi, explained the theme of this year’s 16 Days of Activism and stressed the need for young people to speak out when confronted with physical or digital abuse. She noted that many teenagers remain silent out of fear or uncertainty, a situation that often protects abusers. “No young person should feel ashamed or afraid to ask for help,” she said, urging students to confide in trusted adults, school authorities, parents or child-protection organisations.

ENWAF Secretary, Mrs. Ebizimo Agedah, spoke on responsible digital habits, advising students to “pause and think before sharing” anything online. She warned that posts, photos or comments can remain accessible for years and potentially harm a person’s reputation or future opportunities. She added that sharing sensitive content about others without consent also constitutes digital abuse.

On her part, ENWAF Media and Publicity Officer, Mrs. Elizabeth Joseph, highlighted the emotional and psychological effects of digital violence, noting that cyberbullying and online threats are increasingly common among teenagers. She urged students to show kindness online and to promptly report harmful behaviour.

Principal of the school, Mr. Ajeh Taripriye, thanked ENWAF for bringing the sensitisation to Igbogene, describing digital safety as an urgent concern in secondary schools. He called for more support to expand the campaign across Bayelsa State.

Students who participated said the session opened their eyes to the risks of careless online behaviour and the importance of protecting themselves and others.

The programme forms part of ENWAF’s commitment to promoting the rights, safety and wellbeing of women, girls and young people during the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
