
The Abia State University (ABSU) community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of a 100-level student of the Food Science and Technology (FST) Department, identified as Michael Wonderful Nikeur.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at Las Vegas Lodge, where the student resided. According to residents of the lodge, concerns grew after she had not been seen or heard from for a noticeable period of time.
Neighbors reported making several attempts to reach her, repeatedly knocking on her door without receiving any response. Alarmed by the unusual silence, occupants of the lodge decided to forcefully open the door to check on her wellbeing.
Upon entry, they found her lying unconscious and immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite efforts by medical personnel, she was later confirmed dead.
Sources revealed that the deceased had a history of asthma, though the exact cause of her death has not yet been officially confirmed.
The university community has expressed shock over the incident, describing it as a painful loss of a promising young student. Authorities are expected to look into the circumstances surrounding her death.
