The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB) has announced the immediate closure of all basic schools across the state as part of precautionary measures aimed at safeguarding learners.
In a directive issued by the Board’s management, Government Junior Model Secondary Schools (GJMSSs) are to shut down effective Saturday, 22 November 2025, while primary and day schools will close effective Monday, 24 November 2025.
Although the Board did not specify the nature of the potential risks, the statement emphasized that the decision underscores “the urgent need for preventive action” to protect students and reassure communities across Plateau State.
“This closure is a temporary but necessary step to forestall potential threats and to reaffirm our commitment to the wellbeing of our learners,” the statement added.
PSUBEB called on Local Government Education Authorities, school administrators, and community leaders to ensure full compliance with the directive and to maintain high levels of vigilance during the period of closure.
Parents and guardians were also assured that the state government is working proactively to address any emerging concerns, stressing that students’ safety remains a top priority.
The Board noted that further updates will be communicated as necessary.
