Prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist, Obi Cubana, has issued a passionate call for unity and urgent national action following a series of troubling events that have deepened anxiety across Nigeria.
In a public message titled “Umunne m,” Cubana expressed concern over the country’s deteriorating security situation, listing a chain of recent incidents that have left citizens fearful and unsettled. These include the U.S. designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi, the abduction of churchgoers in Kwara, the killing of a Brigadier General, the sentencing of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and the kidnap of over 50 students from a Catholic school in Niger State.
Describing the national mood as “perplexed and downcast,” Cubana revealed that he and other concerned Nigerians have, in recent months, engaged top government stakeholders—including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and the son of the President—to discuss pressing issues. These discussions focused on insecurity, Nigeria’s new tax regime, challenges with regulatory agencies such as Customs, FIRS and NAFDAC, ease of doing business, and possible political solutions for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
Cubana stressed that significant efforts are ongoing behind the scenes to secure Kanu’s release, warning that lasting peace in the Southeast may remain elusive until the IPOB leader regains his freedom.
He urged Nigerians not to allow the current climate to deepen divisions, saying: “This is no time to further divide us. A lot of people have been tirelessly working behind the scenes to see our brother Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free.”
Calling directly on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Cubana appealed for compassionate leadership: “This is the time for you to heed the cry of our people and free Nnamdi Kanu.”
He reaffirmed commitment to building a Nigeria where all citizens can live and operate freely without fear, adding that constructive dialogue remains the strongest pathway to resolving national challenges.
