Abia Partners with Swedish Hospitals for 2026 Medical Outreach

The Abia State Government has unveiled plans to collaborate with leading hospitals in Sweden and other international health institutions to organize another phase of statewide medical outreach programs.

Addressing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Umuahia, and presided over by Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, announced that the outreach will be conducted between April and May 2026.

Prince Kanu further disclosed that the Council has approved the implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for local government health workers in the state. He explained that the decision is in line with the government’s ongoing civil service reforms designed to enhance workers’ welfare and boost productivity.

According to him, the number of renovated and fully equipped Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state has now reached 102, while another 98 are expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Providing updates on the state’s health sector recruitment drive, the Information Commissioner revealed that the online application portal has been reopened, offering vacancies for ophthalmologists, medical officers, dental officers, as well as part-time and full-time consultants.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, stated that the introduction of the CONHESS salary structure has eliminated existing disparities among health workers in the state, thereby promoting unity and motivation within the workforce.
