Nigerian businessman and lawmaker, Senator Ned Nwoko, has sparked social media debate after declaring that he feels “sorry for men who have only one wife.” The Delta North senator, known for his polygamous marriage to actress Regina Daniels and several other women, made the remark during an interview in Abuja, arguing that polygamy offers men more stability and balance in life.
According to Nwoko, men who choose monogamy often face unnecessary pressure and temptation, which can lead to marital instability. “I honestly feel sorry for men who have only one wife. One woman alone cannot satisfy or complete a man in every sense — emotionally, socially, and otherwise,” he said. “Polygamy brings harmony because it reduces infidelity and keeps men more responsible to their families.”
The billionaire politician explained that in African culture, polygamy has always existed as a natural practice, only to be condemned by Western influence. He said he believes that embracing traditional marriage systems could help reduce issues of broken homes and secret relationships.
“Many men are in relationships with several women but pretend to be monogamous. That’s hypocrisy. It is better to be open and responsible for all your wives and children,” Nwoko added.
His comments have since ignited a wave of mixed reactions online. While some Nigerians supported his cultural argument, others accused him of using wealth and status to justify polygamy.
Nwoko, who is married to six women, including Nollywood star Regina Daniels, has often defended his lifestyle as “African and natural.” He emphasized that his large family is “his greatest source of joy,” adding that he has no regrets about choosing polygamy.
The statement has once again placed Nwoko at the center of public debate on modern marriage and African tradition.
