DHQ Denies Coup Attempt Rumour, Reaffirms Loyalty to President Tinubu

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has debunked as false and misleading a report circulating online that linked the cancellation of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary to an alleged attempted military coup.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, described the publication as unfounded and aimed at causing unnecessary tension.

According to him, the report deliberately misrepresented the DHQ’s recent announcement concerning the arrest of sixteen officers currently under investigation for professional misconduct, falsely suggesting it was connected to a coup plot.

“The report is entirely untrue and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public,” Gusau stated. “The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain fully loyal to the Constitution and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Commander-in-Chief.”

He urged members of the public to disregard the rumours and rely only on verified information from official military channels.
