Taraba state varsity SUG suspended over Gender Swap dayThe Management of Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, has suspended the Students’ Union Government (SUG) indefinitely over alleged misconduct during the recently concluded 2025 Students’ Week celebration.

The annual event, which featured several activities, included a “Gender Swap Day,” where male and female students exchanged modes of dressing for fun. However, the university management expressed displeasure over the conduct of some participants, describing their actions as “unacceptable displays” that violated the institution’s dress code and moral standards.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Paul Bako, lamented that the regrettable incidents that occurred during the week marred the purpose of the celebration. He said the behaviour of some students contradicted the university’s core values of discipline, decency, and character development.

Professor Bako disclosed that an emergency management meeting held on Monday, October 13, reviewed the incidents and attributed the disorder to poor coordination and oversight by the SUG leadership.

Following the meeting, the university resolved to suspend the Students’ Union Government indefinitely, pending the outcome of an investigation into the matter.

He assured that the management remained committed to maintaining discipline and upholding the integrity of the institution, emphasizing that students are expected to conduct themselves in ways that reflect the moral and academic standards of Taraba State University.
