Fubara Retains Eight Commissioners, Prepares Fresh Nominees’ ListRivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is set to forward a new list of commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly as part of moves to reconstitute his cabinet, following the expiration of the six-month emergency rule in the state.

The governor’s latest decision comes in the wake of the Supreme Court judgment which affirmed Martin Amaewhule as the authentic Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, a ruling that has reshaped the state’s political landscape.

Sources at the Government House revealed that Governor Fubara has decided to retain eight commissioners who were not affected by the legal and political developments that culminated in the cabinet’s dissolution. These retained officials are considered loyal and instrumental to the smooth functioning of his administration during the transition period.

The governor had earlier dissolved his cabinet immediately after the emergency rule ended, signalling a fresh start for his government. The emergency rule, imposed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in response to the deepening political crisis in Rivers State, had granted the governor special powers to ensure governance continuity and maintain peace amid heightened tensions between rival political camps.

Governor Fubara’s forthcoming nominees’ list is expected to reflect a delicate balance between political reconciliation and administrative efficiency. Observers believe the new appointments will aim to strengthen his grip on governance while fostering unity among key stakeholders across the state’s diverse political divides.

According to insiders, consultations are already ongoing with party leaders, traditional rulers, and other influential figures to ensure that the composition of the new cabinet aligns with the governor’s development agenda and the people’s expectations.

The reconstitution of the cabinet marks a crucial step in stabilising governance in Rivers State after months of political uncertainty. It is anticipated that the new team, once approved by the Assembly, will focus on advancing key policy areas such as infrastructure, education, health, and economic development — sectors Governor Fubara has consistently prioritised since assuming office.

Political watchers say all eyes are now on the Rivers Assembly as the state awaits the governor’s new list, which may be unveiled in the coming days.
